Circa 1950's Denkert G54 Henry "Hank" Thompson baseball glove. A very nice glove with soft, smooth and pliable leather. Has excellent inside lining. Comfortably fits my medium size hand. The only flaws of note are a light set of initials written on the wrist strap and a scuff in the pocket near the web (see photos). Excellent overall condition. Hank Thompson played with the Kansas City Monarchs in the Negro Leagues from 1943-48 with 2 1/2 years served in the US Army as a machine gunner during WW2 where he fought at the Battle of the Bulge. Hank was mustered out in June 1946 as a sergeant with 2 Battle Stars when he rejoined the Monarchs. In 1947 Hank became the 3rd ever black player to play in the Major Leagues playing his first game just twelve days after Larry Doby broke the color barrier in the American League. Hank went back to the Monarchs in 1948 then after a huge year was signed by the Giants in 1949 where he had an excellent year and by 1951 the Giants, like their crosstown counterparts the Brooklyn Giants, had a number of black stars including Willie Mays and Monte Irvin.
